Volta River Authority (VRA) engaged a consortium of VPC GmbH and Arthur Energy Advisors (AEA) to conduct a comprehensive technical, operational, and financial assessment of the 21-year-old Takoradi Thermal Power Plant (T1) at Aboadze, comprising two GE Frame 9E gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, and one steam turbine in a combined cycle configuration. The study aimed to guide decisions on rehabilitation, retrofit, or replacement as the plant approached the end of its 25-year economic life. AEA, as the local technical partner, contributed energy sector expertise, financial analysis, and commercial insight, undertaking site visits and fact-finding, asset valuation, retrofit/replacement studies, financial modeling, and economic analysis to provide actionable recommendations.
